The challenge to scale carbon removal to 10 gigatonnes by 2050 is clear. Despite scientific recognition of its need, this sector is still in its early stages of development with just 0.006% of this target met so far.

Understanding how scalable a carbon removal method is, and which factors will have an impact on scalability, is crucial to understanding this new market and to inform where investment needs to be directed in this nascent industry.

This assessment seeks to, for the first time, unpick how scalable five different carbon removal methods are on a comparative basis.
