A turning point for the CORSIA market?

  • Joel Gould

  • The International Civil Aviation Organization has approved Climate Action Reserve, Global Carbon Council, Gold Standard, and Verra as eligible standards for the first phase of CORSIA, which runs from now until the end of 2026.

  • While this potentially makes over 6 million more credits eligible for the scheme - on top of the 7 million which were already eligible - the requirement for letters of authorisation keeps supply limited for now, significantly below the circa 100 million credits needed to meet the expected demand.

  • BeZero ratings across the standards now eligible for CORSIA range from ‘AA’ to ‘D’, indicating that airlines should be wary of project-level risks as they develop their carbon credit strategies.
