We evidence the carbon accounting and boundaries for every project via verified project information, extensive developer engagement and in-house geospatial tools. Our ratings assess these claims.

Our datasets are enriched by local expertise and global research partnerships. Our sources library allows every rating to draw on thousands of peer-reviewed studies.

Our proprietary sector-specific models use machine learning and automation to identify and assess the risks to a project’s climate claims. 

Our ratings scientists use sector specific frameworks to evaluate the results of our models, and assess risks that can’t be modelled.

Our analysts assess the five key risks associated with whether a project will successfully reach operation (ex ante only). We are the only agency to perform this analysis.

Every rating is unanimously approved at Ratings Committee, containing hundreds of years of scientific, carbon and markets experience. 

We believe full time specialists scrutinising every rating decision gives the most rigorous assessment.

Our headline ratings have always been made public; released at the same time; and shown the same everywhere.
