Demand for high-quality nature-based carbon removals, such as Afforestation, Reforestation & Restoration (ARR) projects, is on the rise. In recent years, major companies like Shell and Netflix have retired ARR credits in large volumes, while Microsoft, Google and the Symbiosis Coalition have announced several multi-million dollar commitments for new projects.
While ARR projects can deliver positive climate outcomes as well as community and biodiversity-related co-benefits, they are not immune to risk. Project developers, investors and buyers need simple tools to understand and engage with carbon risk drivers early.
On 28th August, we hosted a webinar to help market actors learn how to spot quality in ARR projects, and build mitigation strategies at project design stage. Dr Tomi Turner, Lead Carbon Ratings Scientist and ARR Lead, and Riley Wagner, Senior Data Product Manager, used real project examples to show how to:
Understand what drives risk in this sub-sector
See the real-time impact of project inputs on potential rating outcomes
Optimise project design for higher climate impact
