Alongside Herzog Law, BeZero Carbon hosted a webinar on navigating legal uncertainty in the carbon markets.
Lily Ginsberg-Keig, Senior Manager of Policy & Government Engagement at BeZero, was joined by Dr Ruth Dagan, Partner and Head of Environment and Climate Change at Herzog Law, Rebecca Idell, Executive Director of Global Markets Structuring at UBS, and Pedro Carvalho, Head of Policy and Markets at EcoSecurities, to explore the evolving legal landscape for investors, developers, and policy professionals.
Following the recent joint report published by BeZero Carbon and Herzog Law, “De-risking carbon markets: Managing legal uncertainty in the treatment of carbon credits”, the webinar unpacked how uncertainty and inconsistencies in legal frameworks across countries can create challenges for scaling carbon markets, and steps that can be taken to manage that risk.
The panel explored tools such as credit ratings and insurance, and looked at efforts such as the UNIDROIT project to develop clearer global principles for how carbon credits are handled legally, including ownership, transfer, and use as collateral.
