
From risk to reward: Making the UK the carbon markets capital of the world
However, carbon credit demand in the UK is currently driven by a handful of large corporates leaving billions in potential capital untapped that could otherwise be deployed into projects which reduce or remove emissions.
This report puts forward a vision of the UK in 2035 as the global capital for carbon markets, highlighting the tangible benefits of achieving this vision and how it can be delivered.
Climate Minister, Kerry McCarthy, said:
“Carbon markets can deliver meaningful climate action and real, lasting change for the environment. We’re making sure these benefits are realised by leading global efforts to raise integrity in these markets. BeZero Carbon’s research shows that carbon markets can also support jobs and economic growth for the UK, while channelling the private finance needed to tackle the climate crisis and speed up the global clean energy transition through our Plan for Change."
