BeZero bolsters independent Advisory Board with former HSBC nature lead
BeZero Carbon today announces the appointment of Marine de Bazelaire, former Group Advisor on Natural Capital at HSBC, to its Advisory Board.
De Bazelaire brings 25 years of sustainability experience, including two decades in financial services. As HSBC’s Group Advisor on Natural Capital, she has led the bank’s Nature Strategy and ensured its compliance with key emerging ESG regulations.
Announced in July 2024, BeZero Carbon’s Advisory Board provides the business with independent advice and constructive criticism as carbon markets grow and scale. Its existing members comprise climate, energy, and finance experts from institutions such as Imperial College London and the University of Oxford, as well as the Chief Executive of the Green Finance Institute and the Chief Sustainability Officer at Microsoft Western Europe.
BeZero Carbon provides ratings and risk infrastructure for businesses and governments to make informed decisions about their environmental investments, helping channel capital to where it can have the greatest impact.
Sebastien Cross, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer at BeZero Carbon, said:
“We’re excited to welcome Marine de Bazelaire to our Advisory Board as it guides us through an exciting period of growth both for the business and the wider sector. Her addition further strengthens the Board’s biodiversity and finance credentials, reinforcing our commitment to draw upon a wide pool of independent climate expertise. As carbon markets become essential to global decarbonisation strategies, it's never been more important that the sector is challenged and held accountable.”
Marine de Bazelaire, former Group Advisor on Natural Capital at HSBC, said:
“Carbon markets have untapped potential to mobilise capital towards projects which make a real positive difference to our planet. But they also bring a host of novel risks which we are only beginning to understand for the first time. Ratings agencies like BeZero equip market participants with the tools needed to assess this risk, ensuring we use all means to prioritise the protection and restoration of natural capital.”
