Attracted premium buyers who needed reassurance on quality beyond CCP eligibility
Differentiated their project from others in the clean cooking sub-sector
Demonstrated measurable impact with independently assessed project performance

Douglas Greenwell, Commercial Director, Carbon at BURN“Our buyers need reassurance that our project credits are high integrity. CCP eligibility is essential, but they also want a clear, independent signal of quality at the project level. The BeZero rating shows the difference BURN brings beyond the industry standard requirements.
BURN is transforming cooking across Africa with technology that reduces emissions and protects communities. In Somalia, the GS12285 project is helping families switch from traditional charcoal stoves to cleaner, more efficient cooking appliances - known as ‘Jikokoas’ - but buyers of the credits from this project want more than Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) eligibility. They are looking for independent proof of integrity and measurable impact.
BURN needed a way to show that these stoves are not only cutting emissions but also improving lives, forests, and household health in ways that go beyond market standards.
To meet this challenge, BURN requested an ex post rating from BeZero Carbon. The assessment was conducted by a team of scientists who together have rated close to 100 cookstove projects across multiple regions, and have conducted site visits to cookstove projects in Kenya and beyond.
GS12285 received a ‘BBB’ rating, placing it in the top five percent of cookstove projects rated on the BeZero platform. The rating highlights how BURN’s advanced charcoal stoves are supported by proactive efforts to address awareness and distribution barriers, and exhibit consistent usage, transparency, and verifiable carbon impact.
This gives buyers clear, data-backed confidence that the project can deliver high-integrity carbon credits alongside tangible community benefits.

The BeZero rating helped position the project for premium buyers seeking additional value beyond the carbon integrity provided by the CCP label. It offers an independent, third-party assessment of project quality, giving buyers greater confidence in both the emissions reductions and the broader impact delivered.
As a result, the project has attracted many buyers looking for high-integrity credits with clear social and environmental co-benefits. Families benefit from cleaner, safer cooking, with reduced exposure to indoor air pollution, while BURN continues to build a reputation as a developer that combines operational scale with credible, measurable impact.
