Mariana Fernández is an environmental scientist and human rights expert specialising in human rights, Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ rights, land rights, and policy and impact metrics within carbon markets and the climate action sector. Her main contributions to the field focus on risk assessments, safeguards, and monitoring and evaluation.
Before joining BeZero, Mariana led the revamping and improvement of VCS requirements and safeguards. She also implemented global risk frameworks for carbon projects at South Pole, managed stakeholder engagement and FPIC processes with the Nature Conservancy, supported land rights advocacy and policy initiatives through the Tenure Facility, and developed analytical frameworks for the UNDP.
