Investment group River and Mercantile are required to comply with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) regulations. Our team calculated their operational footprint and provided them with the knowledge, expertise and offsets to remain carbon neutral between 2020 and 2021.
River and Mercantile is an advisory and asset management group providing investment solutions for clients across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. They are active members of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, including Climate Action 100+, and have made the commitment to be a net zero carbon asset manager by 2050. With Environment as a core corporate sustainability pillar, they were looking for support in complying with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) regulations for the first time since the regulation came into effect last year.
We carried out a comprehensive calculation of their operational footprint according to GHG Protocol guidelines which included global energy use across eight locations, heating fuels, electricity, and reimbursed transport expenses. Subsequently, we prepared a report in compliance with the SECR requirements, and also wider carbon foot-printing for the Group, comprising our calculations, intensity ratios and sustainability actions, along with guidance for the Climate Neutral Now pledge. Outputs were used in the annual report
River and Mercantile were provided with the expertise to confidently navigate SECR regulations and used our market-leading BeZero Carbon Ratings framework to contribute to quality carbon projects. This enabled the Group to remain carbon neutral between 2020 and 2021, as it has been for several years. In the spirit of net zero, River and Mercantile also acquired additional offsets, taking out more carbon than it put into the atmosphere.
“It was great working with the BeZero Carbon team. The outputs were high quality and the team were responsive, knowledgeable and flexible”
